AI is already writing 3.1% of the manufacturing production code, against 1.9% globally. Agents are next.
Yet 90.3% of that code is hard to change. AI compounds whatever discipline you already have: where quality is managed, it speeds up delivery, and where it isn’t, it speeds up the debt just as fast.
This webinar draws on SIG’s benchmark of more than 40,000 systems and 600 billion lines of code to show four risks and where IT leaders should focus in 2027.
➡️ You can’t see what AI wrote. AI-written code carried twice the security violations, and since 11 September 2026 the EU Cyber Resilience Act requires manufacturers to report actively exploited vulnerabilities within 24 hours.
➡️ Hard-to-change code eats your capacity. Moving one system up in quality can free up about 5.8 developers, roughly €870,000 a year.
➡️ Debt is on the list, not in the plan. 54% of manufacturing infrastructure and operations leaders name technical debt their top challenge, yet only 7% of those with modernization plans rank reducing it in their top three reasons (Gartner).
➡️ Agents without a human check score 1.1 out of 5 for maintainability. Agents working alone scored 1.1 and 1.9 out of 5 for maintainability in SIG’s study, against 3.1 with a human in the loop. A check inside the build loop cut high-risk findings by about 97%.
1️⃣ How much AI-written code is already running in manufacturing;
2️⃣ What hard-to-change code costs, and why AI doesn’t make it go away;
3️⃣ How to rank which systems to modernize first;
4️⃣ What changes when agents work with a human in the loop and a check in the build loop;
5️⃣ Four questions for your 2027 plan.
